This study traced the impact of Delhi’s free bus travel scheme for women, the first of its kind in India, on women’s daily lives. We surveyed over 500 women and conducted 20 in-depth interviews. The scheme significantly increased women’s independent mobility. About two-thirds reported more confidence to commute on their own. 75% redirected transport savings towards household needs and education.
